January 2, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Ushering in the year 2018 was quiet and uneventful compared to previous years. Celebrations took place in various venues in Koror and other States but no major accidents or other incidents took place.

Such safe New Year night was attributed to very noticeable police presence in the community, which included foot patrols and car patrols through the neighborhoods and along the main roads. It was also attributed to increased Red Ribbons campaigns leading to January 1st. [/restrict]
