ASAN, Guam (July 14, 2016) – In close consultation with the Government of Palau, U.S. Marines will conduct military training in Palau in the middle of July.  The Marines have been planning this exercise with Palau for several months with an eye toward minimizing inconvenience to the community.

The training will include high-intensity, close-quarters tactics and the use of non-lethal fire, demolition, raids, and parachute insertion.  Residents living in Koror, Airai, and Aimeliik may hear aircraft, military vehicles, and occasional loud noises.

Palau and the United States have been close allies for more than 70 years, and Palauans proudly serve in the U.S. military.  Exercises such as this one help prepare service members to provide for the defense and security of Palau, as guaranteed by the Compact of Free Association. [/restrict]
