Tour of USNS Mercy hospital ship last week with a group from newly formed disaster response group KLEMAT and seeing the oil-tanker turned into a military hospital ship featuring a top-of-the-line scanner, full demo surgery room, fully equipped ICUs with ventilators, and other impressive medical services facilities.
Based in the Pacific, the medical ship has supported many emergencies and joint exercises in the Pacific. It served as a support medical ship in Los Angeles, CA, during the height of COVID-19 outbreak, providing relief to other medical facilities that were overwhelmed with COVId-19 patients. The ship did not accept COVID patients, but took non-COVID patients to relieve hospitals.
