The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) began in 2003 involving 15 countries of the Pacific including Palau, to help Solomon Islands end violence, lawlessness and ethnic tensions that had taken over their country in the early 2000.
After 14 years, the mission is successfully coming to a close. Solomon Island Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Manasseh Maelanga had issued a special public holiday on June 29th to celebrate the end of RAMSI.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare had invited Pacific top leaders and VIPs to attend the farewell celebrations.
Palau has had a member of its police force assigned to RAMSI over the years. Currently Officer Kenny Mers Sengebau represents Palau in the RAMSI team. [/restrict]
