President Surangel Whipps Jr. is asking Palau Congress to appropriate an amount of $250,000 to support Guam’s recovery efforts from the devastation of Typhoon Mawar.
“It is imperative to recognize the significant impacts Typhoon Mawar has caused to our neighboring friends in Guam,” he stated in his request to Olbiil Era Kelulau.
He said because Guam is home to Palauans, it would be “compassionate “ to support Guam during a difficult time.
According to the American Red Cross, nearly one month since Typhoon Mawar hit Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, some areas are still without power and water.
“Many of those taking refuge in shelters are unable to return home because of the damage from the storm,” the statement said.
The storm which hit Guam in May was the strongest to impact the island in years.
