President Surangel Whipps said that Palau is slowly rejuvenating its tourism industry

In his State of The Republic Address on Tuesday, Whipps said tourists in Taiwan, the US mainland, Europe, and Australia are diving “in our waters and swimming with our sharks.’

“They are also patronizing our restaurants and shopping at our local stores. Our tourism number reflects the steady improvements,” Whipps said.

He noted that in March Palau had nearly 3,000 visitors which is over 400 increase compared to the same period last year.

Whipps said rejuvenating tourism is also due to increased flights from airlines such as United Airlines, China Airlines, and Air Nuigini. Palau is also looking forward to new routes from Singapore Airlines true Alii Belau and Jeju Airlines that will service routes to Korea.

He also said thanks to the relentless effort of the government to meet with heads of state, ministers of commerce, CEOs of airlines and tour groups, and anyone else, he said that could help the country get tourism back.
