H.E. Dr. David Tawei Lee, Foreign Minister of the Republic of China (Taiwan), signed an Agreement on a Working Holiday Program with Hon. Billy G. Kuartei, Minister of State of Palau, on January 19, 2016 at the Capital in Ngerulmud, Melekeok, witnessed by H.E. Vice President Raynold Oilouch and representatives from the Bureau of Immigration and Foreign Labor.

With this Agreement, Palau became the 16th country in the world to sign a Working Holiday Program Agreement with Taiwan, ensuing New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, and Japan, among others. The Working Holiday Program encourages the youth of Palau and Taiwan aged between 18 and 35 to work and reside in the other country for in-depth travel within a year. The Embassy of Taiwan has been in discussions with the Ministry of State (MOS) of Palau on finalizing the details of implementation for the past few months. The exact date to start implementing this agreement is currently scheduled to be in the upcoming summer of 2017. Minister Lee, along with a delegation from Taiwan, is currently visiting Palau to attend the Installation and Inauguration Ceremonies of the 10th Constitutional Government of the Republic of Palau. [/restrict]
