Koror, Palau – In a historic move for regional security cooperation, the Guam National Guard and the Republic of Palau signed a State Partnership agreement on April 29, 2024, at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center.

The State Partnership Program, established by the Department of Defense, fosters long-term relationships between a state’s National Guard and a partner nation. These partnerships focus on collaboration in areas like security cooperation, disaster response, search and rescue, and civil-military affairs.

Palau is one of six nations joining the program in 2024, according to Army General Daniel Hokanson, Chief of the National Guard Bureau. The other additions include Finland, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Sweden, and Tanzania.

“The Guam National Guard Partnership with Palau exemplifies our shared commitment to a free, open, interconnected, secure, resilient, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, as outlined in the Pacific Partnership Strategy,” said U.S. Ambassador Joel Ehrendreich.
