Alan Marbou appointed Speaker

January 11, 2018 (Koror, Palau) The 11th Koror State Government was sworn into office yesterday with Franco Gibbons becoming the youngest Governor of Koror State.

Also sworn in were the new Speaker of Koror State Legislature Alan Marbou, new Vice Speaker Ann Pedro and new Floor Leader Jason Nolan.


Families, guests and citizens of Koror State attending the ceremony found themselves waiting longer than expected when session to select the officers of the 11th Koror State Legislature was split into two factions with two resolutions.  With nine signatures on both resolutions, a vote by secret ballot was cast and the resolution supporting Alan Marbou for Speaker, Ann Pedro for Vice Speaker and Jason Nolan for Floor Leader received majority vote. Resolution supporting Felix Francisco for Speaker, Vann Isaac for Vice Speaker and Ignacio Rengulbai for Floor Leader received 8 votes.

Swearing in went smoothly after with special remarks by President Remengesau Jr., remarks from the new Governor Franco Gibbons and closing remarks from outgoing Governor Yositaka Adachi.

An inaugural ball was held in the evening with only one keynote speaker Adelbai ra Tang Alan Seid.  Citing his experiences when he was young man in politics, he encouraged the newly sworn in officials to make decisions that “will make this government the best government Koror State ever had”.  He encouraged the young leaders to have quiet courage and wisdom in governing their State.
