Angaur State Legislator (Olbiil Era Ngeaur), expressed their gratitude to Chris Larsen, CEO and Co-founder of Ripple, for donating $1 million worth of solar electrical system to Angaur State through a legislative Resolution OEN Res. 20-20.

The resolution also thanked President Surangel Whipps Jr., Palau’s Ambassador to UN Ilanna Seid, and Senator Regis Akitaya for helping to make the donation possible.

The resolution states that it’s Angaur State’s dream to have 100% renewable energy to power the island electricity.  It said that thanks to Mr. Larsen, this solar power system is becoming a reality.

The announcement of Ripple’s CEO’s donation of $1 million toward the Angaur solar power system was first reported by President Surangel Whipps during his presentation at the Our Ocean 2022 Conference in April.

The report at the conference took Angaur Governor Kennosuke Suzuki by surprise as he has not been made aware of the project. He said Angaur had a solar energy project a few years back and that it was a failure.

President Surangel Whipps jr. said that such contribution helps Palau become more energy independent and not held hostage to oil products. (By: L.N. Reklai)
