KOROR, Palau — A Chinese national, Liu Mingkun, already in custody on charges of methamphetamine trafficking and possession, now faces an additional felony charge after police discovered over 25 grams of methamphetamine in his apartment during their investigation.

Liu, who was in Palau on an extended tourist visa, was arrested in October 2024 after allegedly selling 2.54 grams of meth to a police informant. He was charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance, prompting authorities to obtain a search warrant for his apartment in Meketii, Koror.

Court documents reveal that officers found ziplock bags containing crystalline substances in Liu’s kitchen during the search. Field tests confirmed the substances were methamphetamine, and further analysis by the Guam Crime Lab verified the findings.

With this discovery, Liu now faces three felony charges: one count of trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Liu is one of three Chinese nationals currently in custody at Palau’s jail on drug-related charges. The other two detainees are women, also accused of offenses involving illegal drugs. All three are awaiting trial. (By: L.N. Reklai)
