Electricity rates are set to go up this July 1st due to increase in international fuel prices according to the recently published rates by Palau Public Utilities Corporation, PPUC.
The rates are affected by the Automatic Fuel Price Adjustment Clause (AFPAC), part of the billing that adjust according to rise and fall of fuel cost from outside suppliers.
According to the billing, residential customers will see increase of 9.4% up to 12.8% depending on their power usage. Commercial customers may see anywhere from 8.5% to 9.1%, also depending on their usage.
PPUC with technical assistance from Asian Development Bank had acquired a tariff expert who did strategy study and financial assessment including a five-year tariff plan for PPUC. The expert will be on island this week meeting with different stakeholders on the tariff strategy. (L.N. Reklai)
