President Remengesau yesterday delighted in the hundreds of supporters gathered to witness his second inauguration at the Capitol Building in Melekeok, State, walked towards the installation ceremony stage smiling as the crowd cheered enthusiastically.
He started his inauguration speech by commenting on how it is a “beautiful day at the Capitol.”
Remengesau also included in speech appreciation to his supporters as he enters his last term.
“As I enter my last 4-year term, I would like to convey my heart-felt appreciation to many of you here today; To my family, who have surrounded me with love and support. I owe them a debt of gratitude that I’ll never be able to pay. From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” he stated.
Remengesau was sworn-in by his sister Associate Justice Honora R. Rudimch. His youngest daughter, Mayumi, before his oath taking also introduced the president.
He also announced that he will declare 2017 as “year of the family” as he said he will work towards creating the an environment to raise “happy and healthy children.”
The president had a historic victory in the November 2016 election. Remengesau is the only Palauan president who has served four terms.
“To each and every one of you, my grassroots brothers and sisters – I am humbled by the confidence you have placed in me and I renew my commitment to be there for you. Kom kmal mesulang.,” the president added.
He also thanked the public and private organizations that have offered their assistance to Palau for the past years.
With a budget of $200,000, Remenegsau’s second inauguration is more elaborate than 2012.
In 2012, the president opted for a low-key celebration so that the money can be spent on rehabilitation efforts after typhoon Bopha. [/restrict]
