The Teacher Training Program is one (1) of four (4) types of scholarships offered to Palauans by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). The scholarship covers all tuition and fees, and provides a grantee with a monthly stipend and a plane ticket to Japan. Through the Teacher Training Program, MEXT seeks to help improve the educational system in Palau, and therefore, all scholarship recipients must return to Palau after the scholarship period and utilize their learning towards educational development in Palau.

The Teacher Training Program offers training in educational administration (examples: educational administration and finance, school management), educational methods (examples: classroom teaching, learning system theory, curriculum, and educational assessment), specialized subject research (examples: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and gymnastics), and observational tours and practices (examples: class observations, participation in special educational activities, and tours of educational research facilities).
