Japan’s State Minister of Defense Oniki Makoto is visiting Palau and is meeting with Vice President Uduch Sengebau-Senior, exchanging views on security matters in the Pacific region and pledging to work closely with each other.
In addition to courtesy visits, the Minister will be discussing with the nation’s leaders bilateral cooperation and regional security issues, among others.
State Minister of Defense Oniki was in Solomon islands this weekend commemorating the battle of Bloody Ridge in the Guadacanal and Oniki offered condolences to the souls of the fallen. During the ceremony, an individual attacked one of the Japanese media members who was covering the State Minister’s visit. The man, said to be mentally ill, was restrained and taken to custody. The Japanese man was only lightly injured but was taken to the hospital for care.
Oniki will be visiting Peleliu State today to offer condolences to the fallen as well.
