The 2018 Japan Exchange and Teacher (JET) Program is now open for individuals interested in working with Japanese educators in Japan.

JET provides participants with the opportunity to develop and improve teaching skills, experience teaching in a different classroom setting and as well as exposure to various teaching methods beneficial to career development and personal growth.

Any Palauan citizen who holds a Bachelor’s degree or certification of completion of a three-year course to teach at an elementary or secondary school is eligible to apply for the Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) Program.

As an ALT, the successful applicant will engage in language instruction in local boards of education or publicly run elementary, junior high and/or senior high schools in Japan.

Duties of an ALT include assisting foreign language classes and activities, preparing materials for teaching foreign language, and assisting language training for teachers of a foreign language, among others.

The program aims to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange and mutual understanding between the people of Japan and Palau.

The selected participant will serve as cultural ambassadors through sharing of their culture in Japan and promote Japanese culture upon their return home.

The Embassy of Japan will carry out the selection based on the submitted documents and interview. The deadline to submit application forms and all required documents is on March 30, 2018.
