From marine debris removal to restoring native ecosystems, a joint Earth Day initiative in Koror highlights how partnerships between conservation groups and the private sector are strengthening Palau’s environmental future.
Koror, Palau — On April 25, 2026,
In celebration of Earth Day, the Palau Conservation Society (PCS) joined forces with Isla Petroleum & Energy (IP&E) in a collaborative effort to protect Palau’s coastal environment through a large-scale cleanup and invasive species removal initiative.

The activity, hosted by Rubekul Belau and the Earth Day Committee, brought together community members, partners, and youth volunteers, including the Choll youth group, who played a central role in the hands-on conservation work.
Participants conducted coastal cleanups to remove marine debris while also targeting invasive plant species that threaten native ecosystems. These efforts contribute directly to preserving Palau’s biodiversity, protecting marine life, and maintaining the health of coastal habitats that are vital to local communities.
As part of this strengthened partnership, IP&E has generously contributed $10,000 to PCS to support ongoing environmental programs and collaborative conservation efforts across Palau. This contribution will help expand community-based initiatives, youth engagement, and continued efforts to address pressing environmental challenges.
“This partnership reflects the power of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges,” said Ngirameketii Elbuchel Sadang, PCS Executive Director. “With the generous support from IP&E, we are able to scale up our conservation work and deepen our impact across communities.”
IP&E’s contribution underscores the private sector’s growing commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement. Through this joint initiative, PCS and IP&E reaffirm their shared dedication to sustainable practices and conservation leadership in Palau.
The organizers expressed their appreciation to all volunteers and partners for their active participation and commitment to safeguarding Palau’s natural heritage.
