Koror State tops the number of gold medals won in the 2021 Belau Games, with total of 102 gold medals. It also swept up the most medals with total medal count of 255 overall, winning two trophies at this Belau Games 2021.
Sonsorol State came second in most golds and most medals, with 57 gold medals and overall 139 medals.
Third place went to Peleliu State total medal tally of 103 but 3rd place in gold medals went to Kayangel State that took home 35 gold medals and 76 overall medals.
“I wish we could give out 16 trophies for each of the States. You are all winners to me,” expressed President Surangel Whipps at the closing ceremony of the 2021 Belau Games. He urged the coaches to continue to encourage the athletes, to strengthen them for the 2025 Pacific Mini Games.
Senator Topps Sungino commend the athletes for their “commitment and consistency” shown during the Games. Speaking for the Senate, he urged the athletes to be committed and be inspired.
Delegate Yutaka Gibbons Jr. on behalf of the House of Delegates recognized and commended participants and especially the those that supported the Games and the athletes. He urged the athletes to maintain the excitement and continue the programs.
The 10-day sporting event brought together around 1,700 athletes from 16 states to participate and compete in 19 different sporting events. To enable the event to take place, national government appropriated $320,000 from the Non-Communicable Diseases Fund to fund the event. NCD Funds comes from excise tax imposed on alcohol and tobacco products imported into the Republic. This year’s game theme was, Exercise is Medicine, Food is Medicine and Thought as Medicine.
