Minister Steven Victor of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment announced this week that the Local Production Incentive Program will launch on July 1, 2024.
Aimed at supporting commercial production of livestock and aquaculture products, the program will subsidize feed for livestock producers and offer discounts for slaughtering pigs at the national slaughterhouse.
The program will also cover part of the cost of piglets from private farms. For example, if a piglet costs $100, the program will pay $35, reducing the farmer’s cost to $65.
For aquaculture, the program will subsidize materials for aquaculture farms and provide seedlings.
So far, 39 livestock farmers have registered for the assistance. Interested farmers must register to be eligible.
Funding for the program comes from the Tobacco and Alcohol Tax, appropriated under the recently approved Supplemental Budget of 2024. (By: L.N. Reklai)
