A migrant worker, believed to be originally from Bangladesh, pled not guilty to a charge of third-degree assault at the Court of Common Pleas in Koror on Wednesday afternoon.
At an arraignment hearing, Mr Mohammed Alamin Mia, who is represented by legal counsel, formally entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of assault in the third degree (§ 1402, Penal Code of the Republic).
Judge Honora E. Remengesau Rudimch set bail at 50$, payable in cash or as an employer surety. The defendant was also required to surrender his passport to the court as well as agreeing to adhere to all laws and rules of the court. The case has been assigned file number CR 18-126. A scheduling conference regarding the case will take place in August.
Criminal charges do not indicate guilt, but far rather, merely represent allegations, the veracity of which has to be determined by the judicial process. The presumption of innocence fully applies in this case. ( Colin C. Cortbus)
