The Micronesian Games have been rescheduled for June 15-24, 2024, in the Marshall Islands, announced a letter from the Palau National Olympic Committee to President Surangel Whipps Jr. yesterday, May 8, 2023.
The Republic of the Marshall Islands, initially set to host the event this July 2023, had earlier requested the Games be postponed citing delay in facilities preparations due to COVID. In the letter, Mr. Frank Kyota, President of the Palau National Olympic Committee, said he was pleased to announce the new dates and sought the Palau government’s leadership support for Palau’s athletes.
Team Palau is preparing the athletes for the Belau National Games in June 2023 and for the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in November 2023. The team’s training will continue to the Micronesian Games in 2024 and Pacific Mini-Games here in Palau in 2025.
“This year, our teams and athletes are continuing their training in the different sports events, and our games management team is cautious with schedule and strategies to assure our Team Palau athletes, coaches and officials are prepared for all the games ahead,” stated Kyota.
Team Palau to the Micronesian Games is comprised of around 230 athletes, coaches, officials, and management team to represent Palau in these sports: Spearfishing, Micro All around, Wrestling, Table Tennis, Softball Women, Canoe, weightlifting, Athletics, volleyball (beach and indoor), and basketball 3×3 and 5sides.
