NAURU, Micronesia — Ministers responsible for women’s affairs from across Micronesia gathered in Nauru this week to discuss and coordinate subregional priorities for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Miel Sequiera-Holm, represented Palau at this event.
The 2nd Micronesian Ministers for Women Conference 2024, held from April 16-18, brought together delegations from the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Kiribati, Palau, the Republic of Marshall Islands, and host nation Nauru.
The conference, led by Nauru’s Department of Women’s and Social Development Division (WASDA) in collaboration with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) and the Pacific Community (SPC), aimed to prepare delegates for the upcoming Triennial Conference of Pacific Women. Funding for the event was provided by the Australian Government.
“This event is crucial for bringing together women’s ministers and decision-makers from across Micronesia to work on shared goals for gender equality,” said a spokesperson for the Nauruan government.
Discussions focused on developing a unified Micronesian approach to gender equality initiatives and ensuring the region’s voice is heard at the Triennial Conference of Pacific Women.
