Ministry of Health and Human Services assures the public that the flu going around is not
COVID but flu-like illness caused by human rhinovirus/enterovirus which is common cold
Belau National Hospital reports steep increase with 27 cases recorded between July 12 -18,
2020 compared to previous week.
Tests conducted on the samples confirmed that they are indeed common cold virus that
causes respiratory infections.
Ministry of Health says such infections spreads through close personal contact and
symptoms include sore throat, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, headaches and body aches.
Most people recover with 7 to 10 days except for those with weak immune systems who
may develop serious illness.
There is no cure for this cold but hospital recommends rest, lot of fluids and maintaining
good personal and environmental hygiene.
MHHS recommends basic health safety practices such as washing hands with soap
frequently or use 70% alcohol based sanitizer, cover mouth and nose when sneezing or
coughing, avoid contact with sick people and stay home if you are sick.
