28 July 2022– Ms Georgia Smith arrived in Palau under the Australian International Volunteers Program in December 2021, to support the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

Ms Smith is currently working at the OVP as Legal Counsel to the Vice President.  Ms Smith has been undertaking several large projects including a legislative review of the Bureau of Public Safety Rules and Regulations and drafting Standard Operating Procedures for all seven (7) divisions within the Bureau of Public Safety.   These projects represent significant objectives in the current administration, both of which aim to ensure quality services are provided to protect and support citizens and residents of the Republic.  Ms Smith has also developed legislative training for officers in the Bureau of Public Safety, to be rolled out in 2023.

In addition, Ms Smith advises the OVP on a variety of matters that have arisen within the Republic, and has prepared various Memorandum of Understandings, reviewed Treaties and drafted administrative directives aimed at furthering the development of the Ministry of Justice, and the interests of the Republic of Palau more broadly.

The Australian Embassy is proud of the service Ms Smith has been able to provide to the Office of the Vice President and Ministry of Justice.
