(Koror, Palau) President Surangel Whipps Jr. will deliver his fourth State of the Republic Address (SORA) on Thursday, April 25, 2024, following a joint resolution passed by the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK).
The address is the last SORA of President Whipps’s first term in office, offering a chance to reflect on his three and a half years in leadership. He is expected to focus on his administration’s achievements, including the recently ratified Compact Review Agreement and the implementation of the Palau Goods and Services Tax (PGST), which have led to a new era of social programs.
In his 2023 SORA, Whipps emphasized the importance of a minimum wage bill, the Compact Review Agreement, and more direct flights. He also supported the passage of the Digital Corporation law and the Aircraft Registry bill.
Whipps is running for re-election and will likely use the upcoming SORA to showcase his accomplishments over the past four years.
