The month of September 2016 has been declared as a ‘National Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug Addiction Recovery Month, after the signing of a proclamation made on the 30th day of August 2016 by His Excellency President Tommy E. Remengesau.

A report received from the Presidential Press office confirmed, the recovery month has been earmarked to highlight a wider look following achievements of individuals who have reclaimed their lives in long term drug recoveries and to honor the treatment and recovery service providers who have made recovery processes successful.

A list of important factors were collected together to achieve the aim of this program including educating the people about the subject and to inspire them in order to raise awareness about mental or substance use disorders, sharing the stories of recovery and encouraging others who are in need of services and support.

Authorities responsible, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Ministry of Health and the Behavioral Health Division in Palau has invited all residents of Palau to participate and be part of the educational awareness program.

President Remengesau joined the call to people of Palau to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities and ceremonies supporting this year’s them,

“Join the Voices for Recovery: Our Families, Our Stories, Our Recovery”.

A marathon of activities and prizes has been prepared for all who wish to participate during the event. [/restrict]
