Koror, Palau – September 25, 2024 – The Pacific Games Council (PGC) will be holding its annual General Assembly in Palau, the proud host of the upcoming 2025 Pacific Mini Games. This important meeting brings together representatives from 24 Pacific countries and territories, including American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Tahiti, and Wallis & Futuna.
The General Assembly, scheduled from October 3rd to 5th, 2024, will see leaders from the respective Pacific Games Associations, National Olympic Committees and Sports Commissions reporting on the latest developments, including the operations and activities of the Pacific Games Council. The agenda also includes elections of the new executive board of Pacific Games Council, presentations of games bids and selecting the next host of Pacific Games in 2031 and the next Pacific Mini Games host in 2029, including Palau updates of the 2025 Pacific Mini Games and updates from 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
PGC President Vidhya Lakhan, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Minogue, and other key members will begin arriving in Palau on September 27th, 2024. Their visit coincides with Palau’s Independence Day celebrations, giving them the opportunity to partake in the festivities before the General Assembly and the preparations for the Pacific Mini Games.
During their stay, PGC leaders will also meet with the Pacific Mini Games Palau 2025 Organizing Committee, led by Dr. Patrick Tellei and President of the Palau NOC Frank Kyota, to discuss progress and inspect the facilities and sports preparations set to host the games. This will be a crucial moment in ensuring the readiness of Palau as the host nation for the 2025 Mini Games, further cementing the country’s status as a key player in the Pacific sports community.
The Pacific Games Council’s General Assembly is an annual event that brings together sports leaders from across the Pacific to review reports, strengthen collaboration, and plan for the future of Pacific sports.
