Palau Declares 2026 the Year to ‘Just Say No to Illegal Drugs’
Koror, Palau — President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. has officially proclaimed 2026 as the year to “Just Say No to Illegal Drugs,” marking a renewed national commitment to protecting youth and communities from the dangers of substance abuse. The announcement was made during the National Day of Prayer at Palau Community College, where leaders, students, and religious organizations joined together in prayers for the nation’s wellbeing and a drug-free future.

Koror, Palau —President Surangel S. Whipps Jr., Vice President Oilouch and members of Whipps’ Cabinet gathered with the Olbiil Era Kelulau, Council of Chiefs, justices, religious organizations, students and community members Monday at Palau Community College’s Science Theater for the National Day of Prayer.

Amid songs of praise, scripture readings and prayers for the nation, its leaders, people and land, Whipps signed a proclamation declaring 2026 the year to “Just Say No to Illegal Drugs.”

Witnesses included law enforcement officers, Minister of Justice Jennifer Olegeriil, religious leaders, Senate and House of Delegates representatives, Justice Rudimch, Governor Rudimch, Bishop Beouch Demei Obakrairurr, Marshall High School representatives and Mindszenty High School students.

“It was emphasized that we are all responsible — the fight against drugs starts with me,” organizers said. “Each individual, especially our youth, has the strength and responsibility to ‘just say no’ to illegal drugs. This choice, when supported by families, schools, churches and communities, becomes essential in protecting lives, preserving culture and securing the future of the Republic.”
