Palau attended the 92nd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly for the first time from November 4 to 7, 2024, in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Palau was represented at the General Assembly by State Minister Gustav Aitaro, Attorney General Ernestine Rengill, and National Security Coordinator Jennifer Anson.
Anson noted that this was the first time Palau participated in the Assembly since becoming a member in November 2023. She emphasized the importance of Palau’s involvement in decision-making regarding amendments to the Articles of the Constitution.
“We also voted for members of the Executive Committee whom we believe will support Palau in our efforts to establish and operationalize our National Central Bureau,” she added.
Anson also mentioned that Palau had bilateral meetings with other countries to discuss investigations of mutual interest.
Last year, Palau became the 196th member of INTERPOL, and at that time, Aitaro stated that membership is vital for securing peace and security.
“We warmly welcome Palau to the international law enforcement community. It will play an important role in helping to combat transnational organized crime. Likewise, we look forward to supporting Palau in its efforts to protect its citizens and environment,” INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock said last year when it welcomed Plaau as a member.
Anson noted that the Glasgow Assembly was also attended by UK Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP, and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.
She added that the 93rd General Assembly will be held in Marrakech, Morocco, in November 2025. (By: Bernadette Carreon)
