The Pacific Forum Leaders at their 51st Meeting endorsed the revitalization of the Pacific Leaders Gender Equality Declaration (PLGED) to progress gender equity commitment to align to the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent as well as link the status and needs of Pacific Women to current and emerging issues. The Pacific Island Forum Secretariat has commenced the process to develop the next iteration of the PLGED, which includes national consultation with members, stakeholders, and partners. The process will be supported by the Social Policy team of PIFS.

On Tuesday, March 07, 2023, the Palau National Consultations commenced at the Division of Marine Law Conference Room from 9:00am to 3:00pm with the national government agencies. In attendance of the PLGED Consultation included Dr. Fiona Hukula,Gender Specialist from the PIFS, The Honorable Gustav N. Aitaro, Minister of State, Chief of Staff, Roxanne Siual Blesam, Office of the Vice President, Chief Lahaina Ngirkelau from the Bureau of Human Resources, Ms. Hera Subediang from the Ministry of Health & Human Services, Ms. Klouldil Singeo from the Office of the President, and Director Eunice Akiwo from the Bureau of Domestic Affairs and Staff.
On Thursday, March 09, 2023, the consultation continued at Ming’s Hall, Palasia Hotel from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The program began with welcoming remarks by Director Akiwo followed by opening remarks by The Honorable Gustav N. Aitaro, Minister of State. Mr. Henry Puna, PIF Secretary General, provided his brief remarks virtually. In attendance included Dr. Fiona Hukula, Minster Gustav N. Aitaro, Director Eunice Akiwo, and members of Civil Societies, Non- government Organizations, Private Sector and members of Men and Womens’ Club all over Palau.
