Overview:
A new three-year recycling initiative has been launched in Koror State, aiming to strengthen waste management systems and expand community-based environmental efforts. Supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency through its grassroots technical cooperation program, the project builds on the success of the Belau Eco Glass initiative while enhancing local capacity and public engagement in recycling.
In March 2026, a new JICA Grassroots technical cooperation project, Eco-Recycling activities and the Belau Eco Glass enhancement project was launched in Palau. The project will run for three years, until February 2029.

The project is implemented through collaboration between the Koror State Solid Waste Management Office and AMITA Holdings Co., Ltd. In addition to staff members in SWM office and newly recruited personnel, local residents will be engaged in the project.
Building on the progress made through the Belau Eco Glass initiative, the project will further promote recycling activities while strengthening the operational capacity of the waste management office. The Belau Eco Glass Center will continue to serve as a space open to the community, offering opportunities for hands-on experiences and learning.
The project is expected to further expand community-based recycling efforts and contribute to environmentally friendly community development in Koror State.
