Republic of Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine announced the appointment of a Palauan man as her country’s resident honorary consul to Palau during the culmination of the 19th Micronesia Presidents’ Summit on February 21.

President Heine named Ephraim Ngirachitei as Marshall Islands honorary consul to Palau during her closing remarks to the summit.

“I hope that this appointment will be given most favorable consideration,” President Heine said.

Ngirachitei, in an exclusive interview with Island Times, said that he is honored to be called RMI’s honorary consul and he will do his best to represent the Marshallese government in Palau.

Ngirachitei shared that for over 30 years of work at the Palau Community College (PCC) as Dormitory Manager, he was able to help Marshallese students.

“I’ve been helping them throughout the years at PCC so this was a big honor for me to now officially represent them and I will do my best I can and whatever I can do now that I have the official capacity,” Ngirachitei said.

Ngirachitei said that being an honorary consul is purely voluntary work and that he is willing to dedicate his time for service. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
