A Russian priest who visited Palau for the first time officiated the first Orthodox Church service at the Penthouse Hotel on February 24.
Orthodox Church Priest Georgy Maximov, during his visit to Palau last week, had met Russians who are currently living in Palau and organized a service for the Russian believers.
The Orthodox Church is a Christian church with over 200 million following from different parts of the globe and is one of the oldest churches in the world. Some of its churches are located in the Philippines, Russia, Japan, China, and Taiwan, among others.
Maximov said that every time the Orthodox Church’s name is brought up, people think it is new but its origin can actually be traced back to the times of the apostles.
Maximov said that there is currently no Orthodox Church in Palau so he decided to visit here to meet Russians who are living in the country as he said that most of them are members of the church.
Maximov’s visit was facilitated by the Russian Federation’s Honorary Consul to Palau Seit Andres.
