Palau’s senate president has been invited to the Second Conference of the Presidents of Polynesian Parliaments which will be held in Tahiti, French Polynesia rom 10th to 12th September in the theme of ‘Blue Economy’.
According to World Bank, the ‘Blue Economy’ is sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihood and jobs, and ocean eco-system health.
The Polynesian Parliament Group charter was established in 2013 with an aim to take initiatives favoring the reinforcement of links between parliamentary bodies in the Polynesian region.
The membership to the PPG is open to Parliamentary assemblies of Polynesian region or of Oceania area.
The invitation requests senate president Hokkon Baules to join the group and participate in the conference along with a senator of a different political affiliation.
The invitation has also been extended to the legislative bodies of Samoa, Tokelau, FSM, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, PNG, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the State of Hawaii
