In celebration of Senior Citizens Day on May 5th, the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs hosted an event in honor of our elders on this special day at Ngarchamayong Cultural Center.

“More than 200 of Palau local elders attended the celebration which is usually celebrated under the bridge and that they were grateful to have it indoors this year considering the weather was bad,” said Director Klouldil Singeo of Bureau Aging.

They spent the whole day mingling and dancing to live entertainment by Luis Kaluu and his band along with Lisa Sandei.

They were also surprised with a special video message from people here and out of Palau wishing them a Happy Seniors Citizens Day. The video was aired on TMC, PNCC and 87.9.

Thanks to the several members of the House and Senate, ministers and ministries, as well as non-government and government organizations for making raffle ticket prizes, goods, treats and vouchers and all generous donations possible on this day.

The MOH provided some of their testing kits such as temperature guns, face masks, and hand sanitation products for the MCCA to check on the elders whilst practicing preventive health measures against covid-19.

The event lasted until 5pm with lots of laughter, dancing, as well as a special entertainment by Minister Baklai and her staff who were very helpful and great with the elders. They even drank wine provided by Senator Uduch Sengebau who was there to dance and mingle with them.

When asked how they were feeling, couple of elders said “We are very much enjoying ourselves and that they really love the video that was made for them”.  It was a good day.
