TAIPEI — A Taiwanese company is set to introduce its state-of-the-art color-painted solar panel system in Palau as part of efforts to expand its technology overseas and support the Pacific nation’s transition to renewable energy.

Palauan Minister of State Gustav Aitaro signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Friday in Taipei with representatives from Join It Sustainable Tech Co. and the Taiwan Intelligent Zero Carbon Building Alliance. The agreement, witnessed by officials from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of the Interior, paves the way for Join It Sustainable to bring its photovoltaic paint technology to Palau.

Aitaro said the colored solar panels, which can display advertisements, would advance Palau’s energy transition while allowing the island nation to showcase its cultural heritage without disrupting its natural landscape.

“This technology will leave a lasting mark on the cooperation between Palau and Taiwan,” he said. “It goes beyond technological exchange, serving as a testament to our friendship, cultural ties, and shared commitment to sustainability.”

Color-painted solar panels feature a special colored or decorative coating on traditional photovoltaic panels, typically attached to building facades.

Join It Sustainable said that while its technology is more expensive and has a higher technical threshold, its energy generation is comparable to traditional solar panels, with the added function of displaying advertisements. The company aims to install the first color-painted solar panel in Palau by the third quarter of this year.

Join It Sustainable Chairman Hsueh Wei-li thanked the Palauan and Taiwanese governments, along with the company’s partners, for their support.

“This MOU marks a new chapter in Palau’s energy transformation,” Hsueh said. “We look forward to seeing this technology shine on the global stage.”

Deputy Minister of the Interior Dong Jian-hong said the agreement would enhance technological exchanges between Taiwan and Palau while highlighting Taiwan’s commitment to sustainable development.

“These color-painted solar panels will showcase Taiwan’s innovation and provide practical solutions to global climate challenges,” Dong said. (PR)
