On April 30th, 2025, Ms. Tamamura Megumi and Mr. Takahashi Ayumu of the True Blue Project visited Aimeliik Elementary School and Palau Mission Academy to lead workshops on upcycling marine debris, with a focus on plastic waste.

The event began with remarks from Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. ONO Shunsuke. He expressed his hope that the workshop would inspire students to be more mindful of how they can reduce the amount of trash they produce. He emphasized that if everyone does their part, together we can make a significant impact.

Ms. Tamamura and Mr. Takahashi, gave a presentation on ocean conservation and the role of innovation in recycling, introducing the True Blue Project, which promotes a cleaner ocean by transforming marine debris into everyday products. Following the presentation, students took part in a hands-on session where, with guidance from Ms. Tamamura, they created keychains from collected plastic debris, demonstrating how ocean waste can be repurposed into useful items.

The Embassy of Japan in Palau is pleased to promote these initiatives which encourage sustainable practices and raises awareness about the broader issues of marine conservation and the importance of maintaining a clean, healthy ocean. We hope that the students will be motivated to incorporate eco-friendly habits into their daily lives and lead by example in their communities.
