KOROR, Palau — A 37-year-old Taiwanese tourist died last week after being electrocuted at a hotel apartment in Airai, the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) confirmed on Thursday.

Ms. Hui Chi Hou was found unresponsive on Friday, April 5th, at the apartel (combination hotel and apartment) where she was staying with a friend. She was brought to the Belau National Hospital at around 11:30 pm where attempts to revive her failed.

According to BPS Public Information Officer Chief Ngiramengior, Ms. Hou had gone to use an outside restroom constructed with a steel frame when she was electrocuted.

Medical personnel confirmed cardiac arrest as the cause of death, with electrocution determined to be the contributing factor. The BPS investigation into the incident is now closed.
