After the conclusion of the Palau Elementary Spelling Bee at November 23rd, two elementary school students are set to compete at the 2020 Scipps Regional Spelling Bee at the Hotel Nikko Guam on March 7th.

Representing Palau for this event are Spelling Bee Champion Merii Rechelulk who’s 10 years-old and is a 5th grader of Seventh Day Adventist Elementary School along with 2nd place winner Toyomi Singeo a 13-year-old girl who’s a 7th grader at Peleliu Elementary School.

Both participants will be leaving early Wednesday morning to get settled and prepare for the competition. Accompanying them on this trip are the family members, Rmeriang Tmetuchl who’s representing Didil Belau Inc. and Regional Spelling Bee Coach Osisang Blailes.

Miss Blailes a former Spelling Bee Champion and current Didil Belau Inc. Secretary, has been working with both girls by providing them with tips that has helped her and is encouraging them to highlight words that are difficult for them to spell. Additionally, she mentioned that the girls feel nervous as well as excited for the experience and they are studying hard.

Didil Belau Inc. hopes that at least one of the participants will win the Spelling Bee Competition in Guam and in doing so will allow them the opportunity to compete in the National Spelling Bee that will take place in Washington DC. They are thankful that families of both participants continue to show support by motivating and encouraging them to excel in their studies especially the spelling bee.

Moreover, Didil Belau Inc. has been sponsoring the Spelling Bee for over 30 years and they stated that the champions of the Spelling Bee have become successful in their professional careers. They would like to extend their thanks to the donors of the Spelling Bee, through their assistance Didil Belau Inc. were able to host a successful Spelling Bee.

Some of the donations include: Senate President Hokkons Baules and all senators with a donation of $500, Speaker Sabino Anastacio along with all delegates with a donation of $700, Speaker and Koror State Legislature with a donation of $2,025, Office of the Governor at Koror State Government with a donation of $1000, Palau National Communication Corporation with a donation of $250, and First Lady Debbie Remengesau with a donation of $150.

The upcoming High School Spelling Bee will be on April 4th, 2020 and Didil Belau Inc. hopes to have assistance from the public in order to ensure that students are given the opportunity to grow academically and professionally.
