In an eerie coincidence, two tragic deaths occurred sometime after midnight yesterday, with one vehicle falling into the sea at Fisheries Federation Dock and one going over road rails down a steep hillside at Ngerbechedesau in Koror.
The driver of the vehicle that fell into the water, Francis Remeliik, died before he was able to be rescued.
The deceased Remeliik was elected at the 14th General Election of Peleliu State last December, representing Ngerkeukl hamlet, and was scheduled to take his oath of office yesterday at 10 am. He was one of the 8 plaintiffs in a civil case contesting the validity of the other half of the membership of the 14th Peleliu State Legislature. The case is pending due to the closure of the Judiciary as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
On the same night, a car went over the rails at Ngerbechedesau, plunging down the hill, resulting in the death of the driver Francisco Ngiramolei. The vehicle and the body were found yesterday morning.
So far, both cases are still under investigation to determine the causes of the accidents as well as the causes of death. (By: L.N. Reklai)
