U.S. congressmen visiting the country applauded Palau for its staunch support of Taiwan. “I want to thank Palau and the Palauan people for its support for Taiwan,” expressed Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, who recently visited Palau with four other members of the US Congress.
In his statements to the local media, Representative Meeks also commended Palau’s statement at the United Nations against “Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of choice in Ukraine.”
He further reiterates the United States’ commitment to fighting against “unilateral and violent attempts to overturn the rules-based international order in Ukraine to Indo-Pacific and around the world with like-minded folks.”
Congressman Meeks was part of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s party that visited Taiwan in August 2022. He said their visit was to “make sure we were engaged with the rest of the region, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.”
