Koror, Palau — Two of the nation’s brightest swimming prospects, Kazumi Nestor and Charlie Gibbons, are headed to Singapore for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, aiming to break national records and push closer to Olympic qualification. The competition runs from July 27 to August 3 and will showcase some of the world’s top aquatic athletes.
Both Nestor and Gibbons are set to compete in the highly competitive 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly events.
Nestor, who has made headlines with a string of record-breaking performances, enters the championships with momentum. He holds eight national records, earned through standout swims at the most recent Pacific Mini Games. Known for his speed and technical precision, Nestor comes from a family of swimmers but has quickly eclipsed those before him.
“Kazumi’s relentless dedication and natural talent make him a formidable contender,” his coach said. “He’s not just chasing records—he’s chasing the Olympic dream.”
Gibbons, meanwhile, represents the sport’s future. As one of the youngest competitors on the national team, he’s already turning heads with his raw speed and disciplined work ethic. Though early in his competitive journey, Gibbons has shown rapid improvement and is poised to make a significant impact in Singapore.
“This trip will help athletes Charlie and Kazumi gain valuable experience,” their coach said. “The more they participate in these competitions, the more they encounter different strategies to prepare for their swims.”
As the World Aquatics Championships get underway, Nestor and Gibbons aim to build on their individual journeys and contribute to the growing presence of Palauan swimmers on the international stage. Their progress will be closely watched, both at home and abroad.
