February 24, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Director of the Bureau of Public Safety and head of the Belau Drug Enforcement Task force Ismael Aquon, tendered his resignation letter to President Remengesau and Vice President and Minister of Justice Raynold Oilouch, effective March 26, 2017, citing personal reasons.

In his letter, Director Aguon stated that he was resigning in order to fulfill family obligation and to gain full benefit of his pension plan.
Director Aguon has been a police officer and Director of the Bureau of Public Safety under the Ministry of Justice for past 15 years. He states that he will be available to assist as private citizen and he will be turning over the command of the BDEFT to next in command SA Miwa Nabeyama.
According to the letter, Mr. Aquon plans to return sometime in the near future to serve the Republic. [/restrict]
