From 8 to 10 March, Japan Coast Guard Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT) conducted online capacity-building trainings for Division of Marine Law Enforcement (DMLE) staff. MCT has carried out the training project in 14 Indo-Pacific coastal countries since 2017, in cooperation with the Nippon Foundation and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. This is the third time for DMLE officers to be trained by MCT, while it was the first online training for them because MCT could not travel to Palau due to the travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Around ten marine law enforcers joined the lectures and practical exercise to enhance their techniques of arresting, rope work and rescue carrying through three-day trainings with MCT. The MCT’s careful instructions have enhanced motivation and pride of DMLE officers. At the closing session, DMLE Director Victor Remengesau mentioned that the Government of Palau extends its gratitude to Japan for a long-time assistance in maritime security and to MCT for the three-day trainings.
