Koror, Palau – On March 2, 2017, the Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB) held its regularly scheduled board meeting to discuss several permits submitted to the Board.
There were two residential applications: Lucia Tarkong to fill an area for the future construction of a two-bedroom residential building at Ngesaol, Koror and Alex Siliang to grade/level for future house construction at Ikoranges, Airai.

There was only one commercial application for George Alfonso, that was presented as information to the board. In order for a decision to be made, pending supplemental information that must be provided to the EQPB office. The other 3 approved permits were for government projects. One was for Bureau of Public Works to continue the Aimeliik State Road Paving at Mongami, Aimeliik. Airai State Government had two applications approved – one was for the construction of Uchulangas Dock at Orodomel and the other was for the construction of the Ngerikiil Access Road. The Uchulangas Dock Project is intended to develop the current dock design by dredging the southern part of the jetty area and constructing three box culverts that will greatly improve the current flow in the area.
Applicants are reminded that although their permits have been approved, work should not commence until they have obtained the signed permit with conditions set by the Board. The Board will continue to monitor these projects to ensure that the environmental protection plans for the specific project are implemented as they should to prevent any damages to the surrounding environment. The Board urges all permittees and contractors to consult with EQPB if they need any assistance with their permitted project.
There were also 2 legal matters discussed by the Board: Order 17-01 Joseph Tiobech and Order 17-11 Camsek Chin, Baoyufeng Vacation Hotel, and Zhanggui Chen for violation of certain EQPB Regulations. Board held public hearings for these two legal matters.
