July 17, 2023; Koror, Palau— Six Palauans complete the first training-of-trainers workshop on the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Program by the International Labor Organization (ILO). SIYB is one of the largest global business management training programs used in over 100 countries around the world.

From July 5th-July 14th, the participants learned the four core training packages—Generate Your Business Idea (GYB), Start Your Business (SYB), Improve Your Business (IYB), and Expand Your Business (EYB). The various trainings support growth and development for different entrepreneurs in terms of readiness. This workshop was also made possible and supported by the International Office of Migration’s (IOM) Palau country office.
The Palau Chamber of Commerce (PCOC) is grateful for having the opportunity to recruit local business development providers to participate in this training. The four prospective trainers in this eight-days training-of-trainers program included: Ms. Ilebrang Olkerill, who currently serves on the PCOC Board of Directors and works as an independent consultant; Mrs. Ulai Ikesiil, a former principal and long-time career guidance counselor; Mr. Alomar Osima, who is currently interning at PCOC and a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in International Business from Tamkang University in Taiwan; and Ms. Itirong Olkeriil, an independent contractor specializing in bookkeeping and accounting services.
Mr. Hedrick Kual, Dean of Continuing Education at Palau Community College (PCC), and Ms. Ltelatk Fritz, Director for Palau Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and current PCOC President, also participated in this two-weeks long training-of-trainers event.
The Palau Chamber of Commerce is excited about implementing the SIYB program in Palau’s Private sector using the materials and support provided by ILO. The SIYB content is simple, practical, and proven method to support Palau’s entrepreneurial growth, the development of small businesses, and improving existing businesses. The Chamber plans to work with Dean Kual and PCC’s Continuing Education, Palau SBDC, and the Bureau of Development (MHRCTD) in rolling out the first workshops.
