KOROR, Palau – Charter flights from Macau to Palau have doubled this February compared to January, with 19 scheduled for the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday period. This surge is expected to bring up to 2,800 visitors from China, boosting the island nation’s tourism industry.

The increase coincides with Lunar New Year, a peak travel season for Chinese tourists. The flights utilize Cambodia Air A320 aircraft, with capacities ranging from 150 to 180 passengers.
Originally planned charter flights from Hong Kong were postponed, according to Minister Ngirai Tmetuchl, but Macau flights compensated for the gap. Additionally, regularly scheduled flights by United Airlines, China Airlines, Air Nuigini, and Nauru Airlines will continue operating.
“This rise in charters signifies the ongoing recovery of our tourism industry,” said Minister Tmetuchl in a statement.
