Overview:

Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) technicians have completed specialized training on advanced trenching equipment from Vermeer Corporation, marking a major milestone in the nationwide Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network modernization project.

Based in Iowa, USA, Vermeer executed the training through its Singapore-based authorized dealer, Vermeer  Southeast Asia Pte Ltd. The high-capacity equipment will be deployed for underground trenching, excavation,  and infrastructure installation as part of PNCC’s nationwide Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network  modernization project.

PNCC CEO Simon Fraser highlighted the long-term impact of the initiative on the country’s utility infrastructure.  “This is an important moment for PNCC and for Palau,” said Fraser. “By equipping our team with industry leading machinery and expert instruction, we are building the local skills and expertise required to deliver the  secure, resilient, and world-class connectivity Palau deserves.”

Vermeer Southeast Asia General Manager Giam Hong Leng emphasized the manufacturer’s commitment to  operational readiness. “We make it a point to thoroughly train our end user and ensure that they can operate the  equipment with full confidence,” said Giam. “As this project launches, our team remains ready on standby to  provide PNCC with ongoing technical support and assistance.”

Vermeer Product Specialist Bo Howell reported that the baseline instruction has laid a strong foundation for the  rollout. “The training has gone well. The team here at PNCC are very open to learn, and we have trained on each  of the equipment,” said Howell.

Ernest Jamila, PNCC Plant and Construction Duty Manager, confirmed that field deployments are being planned.  “The training is on schedule and it’s been a great week of simulated training at our station,” said Jamila. “We are  planning to transport the equipment to the sites for further training and use on the projects.”

Funded by a grant from the United States under the USDA RUS ReConnect 3 program, this initiative aims to  extend high-speed fiber internet to all residential, commercial, and government premises from Kayangel to  Angaur. The new fiber internet service plans are scheduled to launch by mid-2027.
