
The Palau National Scholarship Board (PNSB) recently awarded the Masami Siksei Memorial Scholarship to Ms. Erythrina O. Ngirkelau, an outstanding continuing sophomore at the University of California – Berkeley, where she is pursuing a degree in Law. As Ms. Ngirkelau has returned to school, her mother graciously accepted the award on her behalf. Present during the occasion was Mrs. Sophia Seid, representing the Masami Siksei Memorial Scholarship, along with PNSB Chairman Joe Anastacio and Board Member Emy Katosang. The late Mr. Masami Siksei was a strong advocate for education and his family established this scholarship as a tribute to him. A recipient of this scholarship must major in a preferred field of study as identified by the donor, must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and be actively involved in the school and the community and other extra-curricular activities. Ms. Ngirkelau really stood out among all the great applicants.
Following the presentation, a short awarding ceremony was also held for the Ngeremlengui State Scholarship, presented to Mr. Austhen N. Pedro, a recent graduate of Belau Modekngei School who is beginning his first year at Palau Community College, majoring in Liberal Arts. Attending in support of Mr. Pedro were members of his family, representatives of the Ngeremlengui State Government including Speaker Noel Ngiratmab and Floor Leader Bitlaol M. Wasisang, as well as PNSB representatives Chairman Anastacio and Board Member Katosang. A recipient of the Ngeremlengui Scholarship must be a recent high school senior/graduate from Ngeremlengui State, with at least one parent who is a registered voter of Ngeremlengui. The student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and must have been accepted to a post-secondary institution.
PNSB extends its sincere congratulations to both Ms. Ngirkelau and Mr. Pedro, and wishes them continued success in their academic journeys and future endeavors.
