Senator Regis Akitaya, a nearly four-term Senator passed away in Taiwan on Tuesday after a long bout with cancer.

The report of his passing touched many people.  An active, community-oriented, and committed person, Senator Akitaya worked actively with many young people and groups, affecting positively many people’s lives.

In his official statement, President Surangel Whipps Jr. said, “our hearts are heavy…after receiving the news.”  Further, he said, “Today, our Republic has lost a public servant, statesman, athlete, businessman, friend, colleague, and strong proponent of youth.”

He extended his condolences to the family of Senator Akitaya on behalf of the country, saying they mourn with the family for their loss.

Information regarding his final funerary arrangements is not yet public as of this publication.
